Supreme Court declares Ahmed Markafi the authentic national chairman of PDP
The Supreme Court has declared Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP. The judgment was delivered in his favor this morning when the Supreme Court removed Ali Modu Sheriff as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.
A five-man panel of the apex court led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, in its judgment delivered on Wednesday, reinstated Ahmed Makarfi, earlier sacked by the Port Harcourt Division of the Court of Apeal, as the National Caretaker Committee
Makarfi had approached the apex court to affirm him as the chairman of the party after the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, Rivers state had in February this year, ruled in favour of former Borno state governor Ali Modu Sheriff.
Makarfi who has the support of all the PDP state governors, filed a petition at the apex court and judgment was delivered in his favor this morning. This puts to rest the long leadership crisis that has plagued the party.
The judgment of the apex court was unanimously agreed to the lead judgment by Justice Rhoda-Vivour. Other members of the panel include Justices Onnoghen, Tanko Muhammad, Kayode Ariwoola and Dattijo Muhammad.
Although Sheriff was absent from court, Ahmed Makarfi was present with loyalist of his faction which includes Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose and Rivers state Governor, Nyesome Wike
