Nigerian entertainment industry stakeholders turned up for the fifth edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference which took place at the Landmark Event Centre, Oniru, Lagos, on Wednesday, April 26.
Present at the event was Patrick Doyle, Adesua Etomi, Toyin Aimakhu-Abraham, Opa Williams, Basketmouth, Alibaba, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, Daddy Showkey, Woli Arole, Sholay Thompson, Kemi Lala Akindoju, Iyanya, Kunle Idowua aka Frank Donga, and several other celebrities, most of whom gave speeches on various challenges of the entertainment industries and their possible solutions.
Issues discussed include Nollywood’s reclaiming of the entertainment market from Hollywood, comedy as a tool to save lives and create jobs and many more.
One of the high points of the event was a brawl between Nollywood stars Adesua Etomi and Toyin Abraham-Aimakhu who were both panelists during the session titled “How Nollywood is reclaiming the market from Hollywood.”
The brawl started when Toyin accused Adesua as one of the problems in Nollywood as she has neither registered with the Actors Guild of Nigeria nor participated in any of the guild’s activities.
Adesua on the other hand argued that most of the guilds are merely facades which don’t hold any meetings, with Toyin disagreeing with her.
Nollywood star Patrick Doyle who was also one of the panelists took Toyin’s side and advised Adesua to join the Actor’s Guild.
Patrick Doyle said, “Now that you are in the system, join the guilds. The industry has helped you. A lot of the young Nigerians that come in from abroad brought in a lot of value to the movie making industry and that value is appreciated here”.
It seemed Adesua Etomi and Toyin Aimakhu-Abraham had gotten over their differences as the two were seen hugging each other at the end of the session.
The annual Nigerian Entertainment Conference is organised by Nigerian Entertainment Today publication.
