Oscars 2020: Billy Porter wows in golden gown inspired by Kensington Palace
BILLY Porter has wowed at the Oscars for the second year running, in a golden gown inspired by Kensington Palace.
The American Horror Story actor, 50, “won the red carpet” in his stunning tuxedo dress last year – and impressed in another statement outfit at tonight’s event.
“The Oscars are a royal event, so naturally we took inspiration from Kensington Palace. I’m officially a Queen with a KW,” he wrote on Instagram.
Billy’s stylist Sam Ratelle was drawn to Kate Middleton and Prince William’s home after a tour of the London palace last year.
“I thought, ‘The Oscars are kind of a royal event,’” Sam told NY Times.
So he enlisted the help of British designer Giles Deacon, who brought the palace’s intricate walls to life.
The billowing skirt pays homage to Kensington Palace’s Cupola Room – a grand marble, wood and gold dome, which features statues of Roman Gods.
“I love the idea of Billy being this kind of messenger sent from the gods,” Giles said.
To complete the look, the designer added a gold feathered bodice and sky high Jimmy Choo boots.
Sam says the idea was to make royalty “fun and modern”.
People went wild for the outfit online, with one lass tweeting: “Petition to make Billy Porter the new #Oscars statue”.
