Nigerian troops arrest 18 over illegal gun factory in Delta.
The Operation Delta Safe of the Joint Task Force raided an illegal gun factory following an intelligence report.
According to the military, the factory where the guns are produced is located at Arhavwarien, Ughelli area of Delta state. The Nigerian military says its Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta tagged ‘Operation Delta Safe’ has made some arrests after storming an illegal arms factory where they recovered guns, cartridges and military equipment.
Rear Admiral Apochi Suleiman, the commander of the Operation Delta Safe, said the factory supplied ammunition to kidnappers, cultists, sea robbers and militants. While speaking to journalists in Bayelsa he said a total of 18 people were arrested.
According to the JTF, the raiding of the factory followed an intelligence report that the gang supplied deadly ammunition to kidnappers, cultists, sea robbers, militants and armed robbers.
One of the strategies used in the operation was the order for a large batch of the weapons from some of the major suspects he named as Isiyaku Ochuko, Ese James and Elvis Philips by some intelligence officers of the command.
