Nigerian Senate Update

Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, (Fourth Alteration) Bill, No. 8, 2017 (Immunity for Legislature for Acts in Course of Duty)
Yes: 93 No: 1 Abstain: 0
It is necessary to clarify that the 8th bill that the Nigerian Senate passed today at the Constitution review exercise has the following as its full title
“A Bill For An Act to alter the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 to provide immunity for members of the legislature in respect to words spoken or written in plenary sessions or Committee proceedings and institutionalise legislative bureaucracy in the Constitution; and for related matters.”
The immunity extends to ONLY words spoken at the plenary session and in Committee proceedings- which is in-line with international practices.
