MAGU SUES SUN NEWSPAPER FOR N5 BILLION FOR DEFAMATION
Embattled Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has demanded an apology from Sun Newspaper which Magu has accused of libelous imputations and statements against him.
In addition, the EFCC Chairman demanded N5 billion compensation from the publisher of the Abuja-based newspaper, as well as the retraction of the allegedly false story published about him.
On March 25, the Newspaper had published an article with the headline “Magu Under Fresh Probe Over 2 Abuja Mansions”; an article which Magu’s lawyer, Wahab Shitty, had deemed as offensive as it allegedly contains false reports that cannot be substantiated, with Magu being said to own two mansions on different streets in highbrow Maitama area of Abuja.
Magu had come out to deny owning any such properties, saying neither himself nor his wife owns any property in Maitama.
Magu also demanded that the Sun Newspaper give a written assurance that the publication will desist from publishing any further defamation against him, within seven days.
