Several days after Big Brother Naija 2017 reality TV show came to an end, the show and many of its contestants are still trending, especially after comedian AY’s insensitive joke about the sexual abuse incident between Big Brother Naija housemates TBoss and Kemen.
A day after comedian AY tendered an apology for his insensitive joke; Tboss reacts to the incident with a long Instagram post saying, “Certain incidences have happened in the past week that has been difficult to shake off. I’m not unaware of the thousands who raised their voices in my defence. I am extremely grateful to you. I have realised that for the perceivable future I will always be in the eye of the storm and that’s why I have chosen to be measured in my approach and speech. I am however not oblivious to it all. Words are powerful but actions speak louder. Over the next few weeks, I will align myself with several causes that promote and uphold values I hold dear. Going forward I will no longer allow myself to be put in situations that trivialise and attempt to normalise the unfortunate incident that happened to me on March the 1st in the Big Brother Naija house. Conversations must be held on the importance of consent“.
During AY’s annual AY Live comedy show 2017 which took place at Eko hotel and suites in Victoria Island, Lagos on Easter Sunday, the comedian, who had called the Big Brother Naija contestants onto the stage, joked saying every man in Kemem’s position would have done the same thing Kemen did to Tboss, saying Nigerians should encourage Kemen.
This brought out the wrath of Nigerians over AY as social media lashed out at him for his insensitive statement.
This was followed by comedian AY tending an apology saying “I want to apologize to @officialTboss_, the entire TBoss nation and Nigerians who interpreted the joke to be promoting rape. It was never my intention to come across as a supporter of any form of assault to women. I was only touched and inspired to share the joke when I learnt that Kemen came out alongside other church members when Pastor Paul Adefarasin asked those under immense pressure to the point of wanting to commit suicide to step out for prayers.”
Big Brother Naija 2017 2nd-runner up, Tboss, 1st-runner up Bisola and the ultimate winner, Efe, all recently got plots of land as gifts from Tonto Dikeh’s estranged husband, Oladunni Churchill.
